San Diego for the summer

Avoidance behavior, procrastination, selective activity delay, creative prioritization… call it what you will, I have been putting off actively preparing for our summer in San Diego for too long.

Last week I decided to “inspect” the irrigation valves providing water to both landscape and vegetable garden with the idea of adding a third valve to water the patio plants. I discovered – a LEAK!

Water was dripping from one of the valves at the rate of ~2.4 liters per day.

So now I have begun a project to replace both valves with a 3 valve manifold.

Today I was able to dig out most of the soil around the valves and plan out how to extend the output from the new third valve to the patio.

Unfortunately, it required emptying and temporarily moving the compost bin.

My hands are shot and the temperature has risen, so I will take a break and return later / tomorrow to extend a trench over to the patio.

Also, some unwelcome visitors have taken up residence in my shade umbrella!

I’ll wait for sunset to take care of these little aggressors. Look for an update later.
